Chapter 1
My First Role Was Opposite My Idol’s Rival
984 words
I was an eighteenth-tier actress who had just entered the industry.
Technically.
In reality, I was the princess of Universe Entertainment, the largest entertainment company in the country.
The CEO of Universe Entertainment was my brother.
No one knew.
Except my family.
And me.
This was important because I was currently being ordered around by Sabrina Yang, a rising actress who thought she was my future sister-in-law.
“Lily Li!” Sabrina shouted from her chair. “My Starbucks is here. Go get it.”
In the drama, I played her maid.
Outside the drama, she treated me like one.
Her assistant once whispered loudly enough for half the crew to hear that Sabrina was dating the CEO of Universe Entertainment and would soon become the CEO’s wife.
Excuse me?
My brother had a girlfriend?
Why did I not know?
Also, what kind of thing thought she was qualified to be my sister-in-law?
I did not expose her.
Watching clowns perform is one of life’s pleasures.
So I got her coffee.
When I returned, Sabrina complained I was slow.
Her expression perfectly embodied the phrase: dog eyes looking down on people.
She had offended the wrong person.
Once filming wrapped and I went home, her acting career would also wrap.
Still, I endured.
Partly because this was my first drama.
Partly because the male lead was Gavin Gu.
Best Actor Gavin Gu.
Award-winning movie king.
Cold-faced top actor.
Also, unfortunately, the so-called rival of my idol, Ryan Gu.
Ryan was my ultimate celebrity crush.
My one true idol.
The light of my fan life.
And my first drama’s male lead was his rival.
Who understood this pain?
Every time I saw Gavin, my face smiled politely while my heart screamed profanity.
“Lily, filming!”
The magnetic voice came from Gavin.
Tragic.
Why did such a good voice belong to my idol’s alleged enemy?
This was my last scene.
Also Sabrina’s last scene.
Her character died.
My maid character died with her.
Naturally.
That night, Sabrina held a wrap party.
Thanks to her, it was also mine.
My brother had something urgent and did not come.
What a pity.
I really wanted to watch Sabrina discover that the “maid” she ordered around was Universe Entertainment’s real princess.
But then Gavin showed up.
He never attended these events.
Tonight, he came late and sat beside me.
Bold.
Too bold.
No one would switch seats with me.
Apparently, once a chair was warmed by someone’s butt, they refused to abandon it.
So I sat at the same table with my idol’s rival.
Worse.
He sat right next to me.
“Happy wrap,” Gavin said.
I was the first person he toasted that night.
What an honor.
Ha.
Ha.
I raised my glass with the most grateful expression of my acting career.
If any director had filmed me then, I would have won an award.
Across the table, Sabrina was whispering to her little assistant.
Suspicious.
Villain activity detected.
I was about to observe further when the hotpot arrived.
Spicy blood stew.
My favorite.
Look at that red chili oil.
Look at those peppercorns.
Beautiful.
Sacred.
I forgot Sabrina immediately.
Between bites, I grabbed a glass and gulped down a mouthful.
My lips were already swollen from spice.
Still worth it.
Then I noticed Gavin staring at me strangely.
Well, not strangely.
More like surprised.
But because he was my idol’s rival, any meaningful look from him was automatically suspicious.
I stared back.
He lifted one brow and glanced at the glass in my hand.
I looked down.
Oh.
Oh no.
It was his glass.
The glass he had already drunk from.
I had used Gavin Gu’s glass.
I had been contaminated by my idol’s rival.
“I can get you a new glass,” I said carefully.
“No need,” he replied, lips curving slightly. “I won’t drink anymore.”
Cocky.
Absolutely cocky.
Also, his glass and my fate were clearly incompatible.
Because soon after drinking from it, I felt hot.
Dizzy.
Strange.
I looked at Gavin.
His face was red too.
Or maybe my vision had blurred.
The next morning, I woke beneath something heavy.
An arm.
A man’s arm.
I turned.
Gavin Gu.
Shirtless.
In bed.
With me.
I screamed internally so loudly I nearly left my body.
I had slept with Best Actor Gavin.
No.
Worse.
I had slept with my idol’s rival.
This blessing, whoever wants it can take it.
Gavin woke.
My first sentence was calm and mature.
“We are adults. One-night stand. I will not hold you responsible. Let us forget each other.”
His expression barely changed.
“Who did this?”
“Not me,” I said immediately. “Absolutely not me.”
Then I remembered Sabrina whispering at the party.
No way.
Was she trying to climb into Gavin’s bed and somehow sent me instead?
Bold strategy.
Terrible execution.
I thought after wrapping the drama, I would never see Gavin again.
This made me happy.
Then I went home.
My mother’s first words were:
“Lily, you must take responsibility after sleeping with someone.”
My father nodded.
My brother said,
“Go marry Gavin. You’ll thank me.”
My mother shoved the household register into my pocket.
My brother drove me to the marriage registration office.
And Gavin was standing outside.
In a black suit.
Looking tall.
Calm.
Disgustingly handsome.
I looked at him.
“Do you love me?”
He froze.
I immediately turned toward the car.
“Mom! Look! He doesn’t love me!”
My mother rolled up the window.
My brother shut the door.
Excellent.
Very loving family.
Fine.
It was just marriage.
This would make it easier to assassinate my idol’s rival later.
We got the red marriage certificates.
Gavin smiled warmly in the photo.
I looked like I was attending a funeral.
My mother smacked my head.
“Why do you look so miserable on your wedding day?”
“I think she looks cute,” Gavin said.
I stared at him.
Weakness discovered.
Best Actor Gavin Gu has eye problems.
