Chapter 5
My Ex Crawled Back
506 words
With Adrian beside me, I improved.
My face regained color.
My smile returned.
He never made me worry.
Wherever he went, he reported voluntarily.
He let me video call anytime.
I trusted him.
Or rather, I wanted to.
When I twisted my ankle on the street, Adrian immediately knelt to massage it.
Lucas would never have done that.
He thought men should stand tall, never bend to help their wives put on shoes or socks.
I looked at Adrian.
Family background.
Ability.
Height.
Face.
Most importantly, the way he loved me.
He surpassed Lucas in every way.
I rubbed my face against Adrian’s neck like a cat.
“Adrian, you’re so good.”
He smiled.
“Reward me.”
I kissed his cheek.
He pouted.
“On the mouth.”
“Bad man.”
But I kissed him anyway.
Even in public, I no longer felt ashamed of being loved.
Then Lucas came back.
On my birthday, while I was getting my hair done, he burst in looking thin, ragged, and bloodshot.
“Mia, I miss you.”
I looked at him like he was a ghost.
“Get out.”
He grabbed my hand and cried.
“I keep thinking about us. We used to be sweet. I realized I never loved Sophie. I only pitied her.”
“I broke up with her. Let’s remarry.”
“We can have a baby.”
I slapped him until my palm hurt.
“Are you insane?”
“I don’t need trash. You played with a mistress and now you’re bored, so you come to me? I don’t collect garbage.”
Lucas pulled out a diamond ring.
“I bought the jewelry you always wanted. I even bought the ring I never gave you.”
I laughed.
“When we married, I bought my own ring and told everyone you gave it to me, for your dignity.”
“After you became successful, you never bought me anything over ten thousand.”
“I gave you watches on your birthday. You gave me a bag made from your old jeans and raffia, and I cherished it like a fool.”
“You never loved me. You only loved what I could do for you.”
He wept.
“It was Sophie who seduced me.”
I pinched his face.
“Excrement is disgusting, but dogs choose to eat it. Without Sophie, you would have eaten some other filth.”
“Do not pretend to be good.”
I pushed him away.
“Go.”
He knelt.
In public.
“Wife, forgive me. I love you.”
People gathered, whispering.
“Does kneeling work? Then I’ll kneel to a real estate tycoon for a house.”
“If begging worked, I’d ask heaven for a billion.”
I laughed brightly.
“You are uglier than a snake, Lucas. At least snakes don’t repay kindness with betrayal.”
Adrian arrived then.
He kicked Lucas aside and held me.
“My girlfriend is not yours to harass.”
Then he looked at me, voice soft.
“Are you okay, baby?”
I hugged him.
“I’m fine.”
Lucas crawled after us, vomiting blood from heartbreak or drama.
“Why won’t you give me another chance?” he cried. “All men make mistakes!”
I did not look back.
Some mistakes can be forgiven.
Betrayal cannot.
