Chapter 3
Rain
530 words
Chris had many childhood hobbies.
Including but not limited to fighting, pool, motorcycles, and trouble.
A while later, I pressed a hot towel onto his bruise.
“Hiss. Lighter.”
“If I go light, how will you remember pain?”
I pressed harder in revenge.
“Next time, don’t follow me everywhere and ruin my business.”
“That guy was bad news. If I hadn’t saved you, who knows how he’d trick you?”
I shoved the towel into his hand.
“I need you to save me? You still don’t understand me.”
“Fine. I’m managing you on behalf of Aunt Chen.”
My anger rose immediately.
Who was he to manage me for a woman who had barely managed me herself?
“What identity do you have to manage me? And what identity does she have to manage me?”
Chris realized I was truly angry and grabbed my hand.
“I said it wrong.”
He pulled me onto his lap.
“I’m managing you as your pursuer.”
Then he leaned close.
“I can also call you sister. Better than him.”
“Sister.”
Damn.
Rule number two of sea-queen survival:
Direct flirting is fatal.
A few days later, it rained heavily after work.
“Lena, want to go back together?” my coworker Xiao Zhou asked at the entrance with an umbrella.
His ears were red.
For once, guilt rose in my heart.
He was a new intern transferred to my team because of excellent performance.
I could see his feelings at a glance.
But as a professional playgirl, I never touched office romance.
“No,” I said. “I’ll get a ride.”
His expectation dimmed.
He nodded, then suddenly stuffed the umbrella into my hand and ran into the rain alone.
I looked at the umbrella.
Complicated.
The rain grew heavier.
Usually I drove to work, but my car had broken recently.
Ever since I picked up Chris.
I thought angrily:
Chris and I are naturally incompatible. He can even anger a car to death.
Water nearly climbed the steps.
A notification appeared.
Chris:
Off work? The rain is heavy.
Nonsense.
Same city. Did he think one side rained and the other didn’t?
I ignored him and opened the ride app.
No driver accepted for ten minutes.
My trouser hems were soaked.
Then another message came.
Wait for me.
A light appeared.
I looked up.
A black Maybach stopped before me.
The window rolled down.
Chris looked at me, confirming my position.
Then he took a large umbrella and walked toward me.
Under the car lights, he seemed to step out of brightness itself.
My heart followed his footsteps.
I admitted that at that moment, Chris had lethal attraction.
“Get on.”
He squatted with his back to me.
After a moment, I climbed on.
A perfect tool should be used.
His back was broad and steady.
“Sister,” he said, “aren’t I damn handsome?”
One sentence shattered the fantasy.
Little brat.
He put me in the car and had clothes prepared.
“Don’t look,” I warned while changing.
He laughed.
“What am I looking at?”
“Not obvious enough?”
I deliberately posed in a way that showed my figure.
His ears turned red.
His brain seemed to nod before his mouth.
“It is worth looking at.”
“Little brat.”
